Knowing the responsibilities of both Drivers and Transport Operators is important - it helps to ensure the seamless and legal operation of your business. Without this knowledge, operators can face hefty fines and the potential loss of licences.
Fleet Manager Responsibilities
- Procuring tachographs for the fleet, and ensuring they all work properly - and replacing or repairing any defective units.
- Calibrating the tachographs every two years.
- Acquiring a Company Card to manage and download data recorded by the Drivers' tachographs.
- Downloading Driver tachograph data monthly (every 28 days).
- Downloading the tachograph vehicle data every 90 days.
- Analysing tachograph data to check for driving infringements and rule breaks.
- Ensuring that Drivers uphold their responsibilities, which we'll move on to now:
Driver Responsibilities
- Recording all work, driving time, and rest using their provided tachograph.
- Checking and ensuring that the Driver Card and tachograph are working properly.
- Drivers must only have one Driver Card in their possession, although two are permitted if one is within 30 days of expiring.
- Having the card with them at all times while working.
- Allow employers to perform regular tachograph data downloads.
- Producing the Driver Card for the authorities when requested.
- If the Driver Card is lost, a new one must be applied for within 7 days. When waiting for the new one to arrive, the Driver should print out the tachograph readings manually at the start and end of each day.
- Drivers must only use their own card.
- Drivers mustn't falsify, edit, or redact data on the Driver Card.
